Mousehole Penzance Cornwall

Mousehole is a picturesque fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall, just a few miles west of the market town of Penzance.

Mousehole Beach

Mousehole Beach

Mousehole Beach - has two small beaches. At low tide you’ll be able to sit on a small patch of sand on the harbour and watch the boats go to and from the harbour. Near Newlyn, on the other side of town, you’ll be able to explore a pebbly beach which is bursting with local wildlife which is perfect for crabbing and fishing!
The beach is well-maintained and has stunning views in all directions. RNLI Lifeguards do not cover this area. Please be aware of tide times. The areas is is subject to Covid-19 regulations and we cannot guarantee that attractions will be open during your visit.

Parking and Accessibility

Mousehole Parking and Accessibility

Mousehole Parking and Accessibility - has car parks around the fishing village. The parking spaces are subject to availability and we suggest arriving before peak hours. Day tickets and hourly tickets can be purchased, and prices may vary. Due to Mousehole having very narrow streets and at times being very busy the car parks are your only option.
Mousehole has many uneven surfaces and steep hills however, there are slipways leading to the beaches which are on both sides of the harbour. The slipway leading from the car parks to the village centre are easy to manage.
Dog restrictions may occur during the summer months. Please note that this is subject to change.

History

Mousehole History

Mousehole History - a village in Cornwall, was formally called Porth-Enys, this means ‘port of the island’ which is a reference to St Clements Isle, the low rocky reef that lies offshore and where a hermit is said to have once tended a guiding light. What was once a market town in 1595, was burned down by Spaniards during the Spanish raid. Fast-forward and Mousehole is a fully working pilchard fishery. There are still over 70 commercial fishing boats based in Mousehole and most mainly fish for pilchard.
To explore and learn more about Mousehole’s fascinating history why not take the Mousehole Guided Heritage Walk? The 1h 30m tour will immerse you in everything from scenery to history.

Shops and Food

Mousehole Shops and Food

Mousehole Shops and Food - is a vibrant village bursting with culture, heritage, and fantastic shops. The village has a range of shops where you can find everything for the perfect day out including café’s, restaurants, takeaways, seaside beach shops, gift shops and so much more! Our favourite place to stop by is the Four Teas Café, where we like to overindulge in cakes, sandwiches and pastries. It’s the perfect destination for some Cornish homemade goodies!
In the summer months you can expect ice cream vans located near the harbour and inside the village - who else is craving Kelly’s Cornish ice cream?
